About me

Hello. My name is Alistair Dougal and I am Mile 585 Photography.

I live in Chelmsford, Essex (but shortly to move to Norfolk), with my wife Debra and our two Collies who, bless them, have a habit of ‘photo bombing’ now and again…as you may spot.

Welcome to my website and thank you for whatever time you take to have a look around. I hope you find some photos that resonate with you in some way – if I achieve that then I’m very happy.

The albums you’ll find here go from some of the remotest parts of Western Australia (including, separately, Cable Beach Broome) and the Northern Territories Australia to the River Blackwater in Essex via the Scottish Borders, the epic and magnificent Western Highlands of Scotland and also South-West USA.

There is also, most recently, an alternative take on Western Australia via Australian Abstracts which demonstrates an expansion of my ICM (Intentional Camera Movement) style first tested out in the summer of 2018 in a field local to my home. A bit of a journey in more ways than one.

Finally, for good measure there are also what you might call ‘seasonal’ albums based around Essex Summer 2018 and Essex Autumn Winter 2018 as well as my take on derelict places – Among the Ghosts – and a bit of a tribute to My Dogs – Willow & Wallace.

Each album on the site has its own separate written outline, which I hope you find useful and interesting in terms of context and information about both the places and the photos I’ve taken.
